Hey There…

I am Dirk, a photography enthusiast.

I started with photography very early on when I sneaked the camera of my parents. It was a Pentax-ME which I really loved. I mostly liked taking photos but did not really look at what came out. I also did not have much idea about all the technical aspects.

Pentax ME was a Pentax 35mm camera that came out in the late 1970s.

I did take photos occasionally throughout high school and university. Mostly of my friends and stuff we did. It was a bit weird because no one would take a camera back then and I felt a bit out of place. But in the end I did not mind that much. Nowadays I am happy I have those pictures.

Things really took off during a stay in Washington DC in 2008. Where I met a bunch of fellow photography enthusiasts. The advent of digital helped getting quicker feedback and I learned a bit more about technique. That was fun. I ventured into different areas of photography. My first passion was street photography but I have photographed concerts, abandoned places, landscapes, documentary and have ventured into portraiture.

At first a big part of my endeavours was about urban exploring. Of course I also went over the top with a lot of the editing as was the custom at the time ( 2009 - HDR anyone ? ). I also got into funky portraits as I discovered strobes.

Nevertheless, the main passion I developed in Washington was street photography. This came partly out of travel photography but also a curiousness about the foreign country I was living in.

Currently I am looking into developing project work. This includes portraits as well as other more outdoorsy stuff. Nevertheless, I have so far never felt the passion for landscape photography.
